How to reconnect Fronius inverter to internet

Step-by-step tutorial on how to reconnect your Fronius inverter to the internet.

  1. Take a smart device capable of accessing local wireless networks like a phone, laptop or tablet, and your home WiFi network name and password.
  2. Go to your Fronius inverter.
  3. You will see four indented buttons underneath the screen corresponding to icons above them on the screen. The inverter will usually be displaying the current output power. Press any button to make the screen light up, and then press the third button to take you back to the inverter main menu.
  4. Press the left arrow until you see the Setup icon, with a screwdriver and a spanner. Hit enter on this screen and scroll down to ‘WiFi Access Point’ and press enter again. Press enter once more to ‘Activate WiFi AP?’.
  5. It will load for a moment and then populate a screen that says ‘WiFi Access Point, active’. A number beginning with 240 will be visible on the screen with a password underneath.
  6. Take your smart device and go into settings > WiFi/network settings. You will see in the list of available networks one labelled ‘FRONIUS_240.XXXXXX’ – the numbers will match those on the inverter screen. Click on this network and enter the password displayed on the inverter. Your device is now connected to the inverter’s own network. You may receive a notification that says there is no internet access with this network, but you can disregard this.
  7. Open your browser (Chrome, Google, Safari etc.) and type in the following IP address into the search bar: 192.168.250.181 – hit search. The PV inverter homepage will load where we can change some inverter settings. If it does not, try a different browser.
  8. Zoom in to the right and you will see a menu list on a grey background. Click settings and zoom back out.
  9. Once this page loads, another menu list on the left will appear. Click on ‘NETWORK’. When this page loads, ensure that the connection mode is selected as ‘Internet via WLAN’. Confirm that in LAN settings, the GET address is selected as ‘dynamic’ and not static.
  10. There will be a box under this with a list of available networks. Depending on your internet, you may have a 5G option for your network as well as a regular one. Ensure you do not select the 5G network and use the other option there. Click on your home network in this list and it will highlight grey. Press ‘set’ underneath this box. Another smaller window will appear asking for the password. Enter the password for your home network and press save. Ensure that in the list of available networks there is now blue text underneath the network that says ‘connected’.
  11. In the top right-hand corner, there will be a tick and across. Zoom in and click on the tick and a notification will pop up saying that the network settings will be applied. You can close this dialogue box and the inverter will stop the WiFi Access Point. Check that the process has worked by logging into your solar.web account to view the data.
